Can I Use My Slow Cooker Pot In The Oven

Stupid question, can I put the ceramic pot in the oven to finish something off?

I'm thinking about making the dressing for thanksgiving in the crockpot, but I'd like to finish it in the oven so the top will get nice and crusty. Doable?

I've definitely read in an instruction manual that they're not suitable for use in ovens. I suppose they're all different depending on the manufacturer though so worth checking the IM.

I wouldn't put it in the oven, but you should just transfer it to a different dish and roast that way.

My manual specifically says not to use the crock in the oven. I'm guessing that most others are the same.

If you're looking for a crispy top, you can transfer to an oven safe serving pan and just broil for a few seconds.

Provided you don't broil it ... should work but the slow cooker pots are not meant for it.

Just toss it in a glass or other baking specific dish and go from there. You will crisp a larger surface area anyway.

It depends on the type of ceramic. Even if it is oven safe, it cannot go from cold to hot that quickly -- ceramic cracks when temperature changes quickly (I'm guessing you'd go straight from crockpot to oven, so you're fine there).

If it's not oven-safe, you might consider a kitchen torch to crisp up the top.

Yeah, I'd be jumping straight from crockpot to the oven. and I hadn't considered the torch. That's a good idea!
